FRANK’S CANTEEN – ISLINGTON

Frank’s Canteen in Islington needed an interior re-design to make it smart, relaxed and ready for post lock-down shopping and dining.

The chef-owner of Frank’s Canteen, a popular local restaurant in Islington asked us to integrate the shop space he ran successfully during lockdown with the re-opened restaurant seating area. He wanted the shop area to be visible, but not dominant and not to get in the way of diners. Keeping a keen eye on budget we designed window bars, counters, display shelves and lattice screens to re-organise the space, using birch ply, spray painted MDF and Hi-Macs (an attractive and hygienic composite material) to give the shop and restaurant a smart, clean and relaxed atmosphere. We made the most of the nature of the Hi-Macs, which can be seamlessly wrapped around angled shapes, to make the counters and window bars feel snug to use.

Franks Canteen is our favourite lunch place, and we really enjoy seeing how people use the space and especially the window bars we designed.
